On 17 October, our Rotary Klub Warszawa City was represented at the 19th Rotary Dialogue Centre in Biała Podlaska by three people: Club President Hung Tran Trong, Past District Governor of District 2231 Andrzej Ludek and Past District Governor of District 2231 Greg Gregorczyk.
This year’s theme – “States, regions and the globe: areas of challenge in an age of threats” – promised discussions on matters that concern us all. The programme covered the future of the European Union, the situation in the Middle East, US relations with Europe and Asia, and Russia and Ukraine.
The debate brought together highly experienced guests: Prof. Piotr Wilczek, former Polish Ambassador to the United States and the United Kingdom; Joanna Wronecka, who represented Poland at the United Nations; and Jan Truszczyński, former Polish Ambassador to the European Union and chief negotiator of Poland’s EU membership. The panel also included Krystyna Kurczab-Redlich – long-time correspondent in Russia, author of books and reportage, nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. The debate was moderated by Prof. Wawrzyniec Konarski. There was plenty to listen to and to think about.
The meeting was accompanied by celebrations of the 20th anniversary of Rotary Club Biała Podlaska. The anniversary gala combined a presentation of the Club’s achievements and Paul Harris Fellow awards with music, painting, and a charity auction and raffle. Because Rotarians can find a way to help someone even while celebrating.
Meetings like this help us understand the world better and build friendships between clubs. And when people get to know each other better, it is easier to pick up the phone later and say: “Listen, we have an idea. Shall we do it together?”
Dear Friends from Rotary Club Biała Podlaska – thank you for the invitation and your hospitality! Congratulations on twenty years of working and helping together. We wish you many more successful projects, devoted friends and the energy to carry out the ideas born around a shared table.
